Readers catch break in clouds to photograph partial solar eclipse
ByNews reporter
Courier readers managed to capture pictures of Tuesday’s partial solar eclipse, the first since August 2008.
Dense cloud cover disappointed many British sky-gazers but the dramatic sight of the Moon passing between the Sun and the Earth could be seen for a time in parts of Fife and Tayside.
Solar eclipses occur when the moon lines up to cast a shadow on the Earth, obscuring the sun.
The eclipse was visible across much of the Middle East, Europe, North Africa and central Asia.
The last total eclipse of the sun visible from Britain was in August 1999.
There will be three other partial solar eclipses this year, but none will be seen in the UK.
