KT Tunstall has urged young Scottish voters to make sure they use their vote in next month’s Scottish Parliamentary elections.

Kate, born in St Andrews and educated at Dundee High School, has joined forces with the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) to launch a campaign to get young Scots to deliver their cross on the ballot papers on Thursday, May 5.

The I Vote, Does That Make Me A Geek campaign is designed to show young people the importance of voting.

Members of the SYP will take the message out that voting is for everyone, not just political anoraks.

In a video for the SYP, KT outlined her support for the campaign.

She told Scotland’s young voters, “A lot of what’s happening in this country is affecting you and will affect you in years to come, in your education, in your jobs, in everything that happens.

“Please don’t think that it’s geeky to vote, because it’s actually very important and actually really cool to be a geek.”

Hamira Khan, chief officer of the SYP, said, “By getting young people to be the messengers, we hope to explain why voting is so important and to engage young people on the issues at this election.”
