Morning television star Lorraine Kelly will return to our screens only weeks after a horror horse-riding accident.

The Broughty Ferry star confirmed via Twitter that she will be back on the sofa of the Lorraine show on Monday, April 16.

An ITV spokeswoman said: ”Lorraine is on the mend and we look forward to having her back.”

The Sunday Post columnist lost three pints of blood following her ordeal.

She was learning how to ride at an equestrian centre in Surrey for her latest charity challenge for Sarah Brown’s charity PiggyBankKids.

But during her second lesson she fell from the saddle on the approach to a jump.

The animal then stamped on her thigh.

The 52-year-old was rushed to St George’s Hospital in London where she received surgery and a blood transfusion.

After the accident Lorraine said: ”I tried a jump and wasn’t experienced enough to get the horse to do it.

”I fell off and, sadly, he trampled on my thigh. Imagine a big horse with an iron-clad hoof it’s almost like a weapon.”Male suitors jostle for favourIt is an exciting time for Lorraine who was awarded an OBE for services to charity and the armed forces in the New Year’s Honours List.

While she was recovering it emerged the mother-of-one is tipped to become the new new face of Daybreak.

But it is understood she has asked bosses to get someone else to take over the first hour of the show until she goes on air at 7am.

Male presenters are scrambling to sit alongside her and chiefs are screen-testing candidates.

BBC Breakfast sports presenter Chris Hollins, former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones, Five News presenter Matt Barbet and ITV News correspondent Keir Simmons are said to be vying for the job.

Lorraine is also said to have agreed a deal to host the final hour of the show by herself.

She and her co-host will replace Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, who were axed last year amid poor ratings.
