Keanu Reeves’ character makes his debut in the first full trailer for Toy Story 4 (Ian West/PA)

A new character voiced by Keanu Reeves makes a brief appearance in the first full-length trailer for Toy Story 4.

The Matrix star, who was last year revealed to have been added to the cast, voices a Canadian character called Duke Caboom, a stunt cyclist action figure, alongside returning stars including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.

Along with the release of the trailer, a tweet by Walt Disney Studios Canada said: “JUST ANNOUNCED: Keanu Reeves to voice #Canadian character, DUKE CABOOM, in #ToyStory4!

“Based on Canada’s greatest stuntman, Duke comes with a powerful stunt-cycle and he’s always prepared to show off his stunt poses.”

The trailer sees Woody going on a mission to retrieve his owner Bonnie’s beloved new homemade but reluctant toy Forky, a spork with googly eyes voiced by comedian Tony Hale, who insists he is not a child’s plaything.

Woody ends up having an unexpected reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep, who shows him the possibility for an alternative life and how big the world can be for a toy.

The new film appears to mirror the storyline of the first, where Woody must contend with the arrival of a troublesome new toy.

The film, produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures, marks the return of many of the first two film’s characters, including Mr Potato Head, Jessie, Rex, Hamm and Slinky Dog.

Toy Story 4 comes nine years after Toy Story 3, which ended with the toys’ original owner Andy going off to college, donating his toys to toddler Bonnie.

The first film in the hit franchise was released in 1995 and was the first ever fully computer animated feature film. It was nominated for three Oscars.

Toy Story 2, released in 1999, was the first ever animated sequel to gross more than its original.

Eleven years later, 2010’s Toy Story 3 won the Oscar for best animated feature film, as well as a Bafta and a Golden Globe.

Toy Story 4 will be released in cinemas on June 21.
