Dundee’s unsung hero

Dundee's Martin Boyle challenges Kilmarnock's Chris Chantler for the ball.

Greg Stewart produced the thrilling finale to a hugely-entertaining match at Rugby Park on Saturday.

David Clarkson made it five goals in five games for him by grabbing Dundee’s second.

Gary Harkins received yet another pile of praise for his performance after setting up goals for both Stewart and Clarkson.

All three men deserved all the credit they got for their respective roles in this win.

However, one man who also deserves a mention for his performance at the weekend is Martin Boyle.

Brought into the side by boss Paul Hartley after starting the Hamilton game on the bench, Boyle injected real pace into the Dark Blues’ play.

He was also the one who gave what had been a dull game a much-needed spark just after the half-hour mark when he raced up the right flank and then rattled the Killie post with a vicious shot.

He also came close to scoring on a few other occasions and Hartley said afterwards that he had gone with a 4-1-2-3 formation with the purpose of getting Boyle into the game, which is a compliment to the player.

Boyle certainly didn’t let Hartley or his teammates down.

On a day when others grabbed the headlines and attention, his contribution to this fantastic result (Killie had won their four previous home games) was considerable.
