Failte gu Meadhan Baile Dhun De.
That, I very much hope, is Gaelic for Welcome to Dundee City Centre (and if it isn’t I am really rather sure people who know better won’t be backward in coming forward).
In any case the reason for my rather unusual start to this small synopsis of the treats on offer in Friday’s Courier is that we in Coming Up Corner have spent a substantial section of the day grappling with linguistics.
More specifically we have been thinking and indeed talking about Gaelic, largely due to Dundee City Council’s efforts to bring the language into daily use.
We find out how said plans are going down in the City of Discovery (aka Dhun De).
Meanwhile, fonadh chun a’ phoileis!
Why, I hear you cry (or indeed what).
Well the reason you may wish to consider calling the police (for that is what the sentence handily situated just two paragraphs above this one means) is that we have news of crime and punishment.
300 years worth no less. Friday’s Courier includes a fascinating look back at the naughtiness of yesteryear.
We also have details of the jolly busy MP who was too busy to go to Westminster. Too busy doing jolly important things. Too busy, as it turns out, claiming second place in the Westminster dog of the year contest. Now THAT’S busy. Or it certainly is if your name is Michael Gove…
In other political news, our man Kieran Andrews spent a fascinating few minutes in the company of Lord Smith (he’s the chap who is brokering this new deal for Scotland in the wake of that bally vow everybody got so excited about). Read his EXCLUSIVE (oh yes indeed) report in Friday’s Courier.
Missing said paper would be a grave, grave error. I can put in no more plainly than that. I am sorry to be so stark but that is the simple truth of the matter. Please do snap up your copy. If you are allergic to paper/can’t get to the shops/ don’t want to leave the house/ haven’t got the time/don’t live in our ciruclation area (or have any other reason I can’t think of for going out and buying a hard copy) then why not try our digital edition? Well? Eh?
