Coming up in Thursday’s Courier a surfeit of booze

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away (actually not very far away at all) Coming Up could be seen propping up the bar of the students’ union.

When in situ a not always dignified period of imbibing would follow.

At the end of night a laughter-filled and often wayward peregrination home would conclude matters.

Memories are clouded by the passage of time (and possibly even the fug of alcohol) but what is certain is that, oftentimes, there would be a lengthy queue at the bar.

Some less scrupulous characters would attempt to overcome this inconvenience by stocking up with more than one drink at a time.

However, at no stage, ever, was alcohol consumed in TWO pint glasses.

And yet, as readers of Thursday’s Courier will find out, students in Dundee are now being offered that particular option.

But is it a good and sensible move?

We find out.

Away from bookish boozers, we also discover just how Alex Ferguson (the red nosed former Manchester Utd impresario) is helping to save lives across Tayside and Fife. Back of the net.

Meanwhile, the Brits were held on Wednesday night. We reflect on a night of all that is good on the UK music scene/yet another night of loutish and debauched behaviour by overpaid, under-worked celebrities*.

It was also quite a day on the Scottish political scene.

I say that with absolute certainty because I asked our political editor Kieran Andrews what kind of a day it had been on the Scottish political scene and he replied: “quite a day”.

Bed-blocking and a red-hot energy debate were among the top tales tugging at his pen (metaphorically speaking).

You can read all about it, read all about it, as Emeli Sande memorably crooned at a previous Brits ceremony (probably) in Thursday’s Courier.
