A Holyrood candidate has released a “cheesy” Carpool Karaoke-style video in a bid to encourage 16 and 17-year-olds to register to vote.
The video features Scottish Labour’s Ken Macintosh, who is seeking re-election in Eastwood, attempting D:Ream’s Things Can Only Get Better, and declaring: “When this was a hit, everybody voted Labour.”
Mr Macintosh then has a go at Sir Elton John’s I’m Still Standing, before settling on Return Of The Mack by Mark Morrison for his campaign song.

stunt is based on a popular segment in James Corden’s US television programme The Late Late Show, in which he is joined on the road by celebrity guests including Adele, Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder for a sing-along.Mr Macintosh’s video, filmed in his car using an iPhone, also features Labour member Charlie Dexter, an 18-year-old first-time voter from Giffnock, East Renfrewshire.
The former Scottish Labour leadership candidate, who has represented Eastwood since 1999, said: “These are the first ever Scottish parliamentary elections where 16 and 17-year-olds are able to vote but I am very conscious that not everyone is registered to do so.
“I am also aware that going door-to-door with a clipboard and well-intended exhortations has its limitations, so with only a few days to go to the registration deadline, I thought I’d take a leaf out of James Corden’s book.
“I’m hoping the combination of a catchy tune, a pointed lyric and a cheesy video will be irresistible.”
The deadline for voter registration is midnight on Monday April 18.
