Alex Addai’s strike five minutes into the second half sent Cheltenham into the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of West Country rivals Swindon.
Addai’s goal was enough to secure Michael Duff’s men a 1-0 win and a home tie against fellow Sky Bet League Two side Port Vale in the next round.
Addai scored the game’s only goal after collecting the ball down the left before cutting inside and firing a rasping effort low into the right corner.
On another day, the hosts would have sailed through with ease.
Michael Doughty had a penalty well saved by Scott Flinders in the third minute after Kaiyne Woolery was fouled in the box, and then Jordan Lyden fired the close-range rebound over the bar.
Swindon came close again just before the half-hour mark when Jerry Yates headed a Diallang Jaiyesimi cross against the foot of far post, and Doughty also struck the frame of the goal in the 57th minute when one-on-one with Flinders.
