Raith will play Queen of the South for a place in next season’s Ladbrokes Championship after defeating 10-man Forfar 3-2 on aggregate in the play-off semi-final.
Rovers held a 2-1 advantage from the first leg at Stark’s Park and it looked set to be enough for John McGlynn’s side to advance to the two-legged play-off final following a dull first half.
However, John Baird levelled the aggregate score for Forfar in the 55th minute when he headed home Jamie Bain’s corner, but they were reduced to 10 men three minutes later when Michael Travis was shown a red card for a challenge on Nathan Flanagan.
Kevin Nisbet, who scored in the first leg, converted the resulting penalty to put Raith back in front on aggregate.
Nisbet and James Gullan spurned good chances as Rovers tried to make their numerical advantage count to kill off the tie but the 1-1 draw was enough for Raith, who moved within two matches of returning to the Championship after a two-year absence.
