Dundee FC legend Bobby Seith worries that the Dens Park side might not survive the punishment handed out by the SFL.
The former wing-half, vital to the championship-winning Dark Blues side of 1961-62 and the team’s subsequent run to the semi-finals of the European Cup, said he felt sorry for the club’s remaining players and their long-suffering support.
From his home in Broughty Ferry, Mr Seith said, “It is bad enough to lose 25 points but not to be able to sign players leaves them with no chance of surviving at all.
“It’s shocking that the club has got itself into this position again but, having said that, do the players that are there and the fans deserve to be treated like this? It’s them I feel sorry for.”
Mr Seith, who won a league championship with Burnley and had spells managing Preston North End and Hearts, said the severity of the punishment would harm all clubs in the first division.
“I have always felt that football clubs are inter-dependent and would have thought that the powers that be would have recognised that and made it easier for the club to come back again, but the way things are looking it could be that the club goes under.”
He added, “Hopefully, if Dundee comes out of this, lessons will have been learned.”
