Forfar assistant manager Ian Campbell admitted his side handed the points on a plate to Ayr United, as poor defending saw the Loons go down 3-1 at Somerset Park.
A double by Stuart Bannigan gave Ayr their first victory over Forfar this season, in the same week the Loons put the Honest Men to the sword at Station Park on Tuesday.
Ayr are a step closer to a play-off spot, while Forfar stay fourth, two points ahead of Airdrie.
Bannigan, on loan from Partick Thistle, converted Andy Rodgers” crisp pass from the centre of the penalty area in the eighth minute to give Ayr the early lead.
Mark Roberts heaped further misery on the Loons just five minutes later when he fired home his 24th goal of the season after another assist from Rodgers.
Forfar defender Michael Bolochoweckyj got the away side back into it 15 minutes from time when he headed home Martyn Fotheringham”s inswinging corner from close in.
But any hopes of a securing a draw disappeared when Bannigan took a pass from David Crawford and fired into the bottom corner from inside the penalty box seven minutes later.
“Ayr deserved their victory because we defended so poorly,” said Ian Campbell.
“We only played for 30 minutes and when we did we tore them apart. We handed them the points on a plate.”
