Raith goalkeeper David McGurn added another man-of-the-match award to his collection as Livingston put an end to Rovers’ 100% start to the season.

McGurn has yet to concede a First Division goal this season, and he was in superb form again to keep Livi at bay as the visitors dominated the first half.

Rovers came storming back and had chances to extend their winning run to six games, but McGurn was satisfied to claim a point from a team who put seven goals past him in two previous meetings.

”We could have won it in the end, but it’s a good point, especially after what happened last year,” McGurn said. ”We knew how they played so the gaffer came up with a strategy, the boys put it into play and it worked.

”We wanted to win the game and we’re disappointed we haven’t but we know what this league is about. You can’t win every game.

”It’s another clean sheet for the team, which is three in a row in the league, so hopefully we can keep that going.”

Raith had McGurn to thank for reaching the interval still level as Livingston completely dominated first-half possession.

On nine minutes Anthony Andrew was given space to shoot from 20 yards but McGurn saved low to his left.

Two minutes later, Steffen Scougall’s 18-yard strike took a wicked deflection but McGurn changed direction to tip wide.

Livingston continued to press and McGurn was called into action again in the 37th minute as Iain Russell looked to bend an effort into the far corner, but the Raith keeper was at full stretch to finger-tip wide.

After spending most of the opening 45 camped in their own half, Raith finally started to push forward and put the Liv defence under pressure after the break.

Pat Clarke came agonisingly close to giving the home side the lead on 71 minutes when his shot took a nick off a defender and struck the top of the bar.

And substitute Greig Spence could have won the match for Raith with his first touch, but after Clarke played him through, he fluffed his shot and Andy McNeil saved easily.

Raith manager Grant Murray said: ”The boys are disappointed they didn’t sneak it at the end.

”Livingston are a good side and they move the ball well but I thought we were well organised, and limited them to few clear-cut chances.

”You’re never going to dominate a game for 90 minutes in this league, and keeping clean sheets is just as important as scoring.”
