Raith Rovers boss says it’s tough at the top but tougher at the bottom

It is a proud John McGlynn who leads his Raith Rovers team into March as first division leaders, with the manager admitting he is relishing the pressure that comes with being out in front.

Beyond Kirkcaldy and its surrounds, few people would have predicted that Rovers would be in such a lofty position going into the spring months.

McGlynn needs no reminding that nothing is won yet and that both Dunfermline and Falkirk are determined to catch them, but he is still well satisfied with the efforts of his players.

“We are all very upbeat and I can tell you I would rather have the pressure that comes with being at the top than battling away at the bottom of the table,” said the Stark’s Park boss.

“If you had offered me this scenario back in August I would have grabbed it. The expectation level at the club has risen as the season has progressed but the players have coped well with being up there for most of the season.

“It is not easy to be leading for as long as we have and now our aim is to stay there as long as we can.”

Raith have an injury doubt over wide man Scott McBride, who hurt his hamstring during Saturday’s crucial 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion.

“Scott felt the hamstring a bit after the game so we will assess the injury throughout the week,” added McGlynn. “Other than that there were no fresh knocks and we hope it stays that way as we build up to the Queen of the South game this Saturday.”

Influential midfielder Iain Davidson will serve the second leg of his two-match suspension against the Doonhamers.
