St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes revealed the players who will be leaving McDiarmid Park.
Peter MacDonald confirmed after Saturday’s match against St Mirren that it would be his last, and he will be joined on his way out of Perth by keeper Graeme Smith, Trinidad and Tobago internationalist Collin Samuel, Andy Jackson, Danny Invincibile, Cleveland Taylor and Jordan Robertson.
Danny Grainger has turned down a new contract and Michael Duberry will make up his mind over a fresh deal during the summer, although family ties in England make a return unlikely. Oxford are thought to be tracking the former Chelsea and Leeds man.
Scott Dobie and former skipper Kevin Rutkiewicz, who were loaned out to Bradford City and Dunfermline respectively a few months ago, have also been freed.
Rutkiewicz is set to clinch a new deal with the promoted Pars, along with ex-Saint Martin Hardie.
Alan Maybury has been offered another contract, which he is now mulling over.
Youngsters Neil Duffy, Jack Clisby, Ryan Sullivan and Johnny Lindsay have been released, while keeper Zander Clark has been offered a three-month contract with a view to finding him a club to go out on loan.
McInnes said the decision to release MacDonald was particularly tough.
He explained, “I have known Peaso since he was a youngster at Rangers. He is a great team-mate and he has done well here over the years.
“You have to acknowledge the affection he is held in after such a long time at the club. Some decisions are harder than others but they are all made in the best interests of the football club.
“I am sure he will be in demand because he has proved in the past he can score goals, but I want to bring a freshness to the squad over the summer.
“I suspect Peaso will also benefit from a change of scene. We wish him the very best of luck and I know clubs are already interested.”
Injury plagued Jackson has featured in recent games and is being lined up by Morton.
McInnes, who continues to be linked with Hamilton winger Dougie Imrie, has dismissed talk that Saints are chasing freed St Mirren defender John Potter.
