Rory McAllister has confirmed a move to St Johnstone would appeal to him but the Brechin City striker is keeping his options open.
Courier Sport understands that the Perth side are the front-runners in the battle for the in-demand forward’s signature.
They aren’t the only ones courting McAllister’s services for next season however Aberdeen, Port Vale and Dunfermline are thought to be in the hunt and the 24-year-old will weigh up all offers before making his decision, possibly by the end of this week.
He explained, “The situation’s still the same but it could be sorted out soon.
“I’ve spoken to Brechin and told them I don’t think I’ll be staying. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to get back to full-time football.
“I’m waiting to hear what’s going to happen. Hopefully I’ll know more in a couple of days or by the end of the week.”
On the possibility of joining Saints, he observed, “If that came about I’d definitely be interested. I’ve got to wait and see what happens.”
Meanwhile Brechin have completed a hat-trick of signings from Alloa.
Striker Jim Lister has been lured away from Recreation Park by City boss Jim Weir and will join David McClune and Mick Dunlop at Glebe Park next season.
Weir, who has been one of the busiest managers, if not the busiest, in the close season so far, has also tied up veteran keeper Craig Nelson for another year.
On the capture of targetman Lister, Weir commented, “He’s 6ft 3in tall and is great in the air, but he’s also got good pace.
“He’s a better footballer than he’s maybe been given credit for and at 30-year-old gives us more experience.
“Alloa were desperate to keep him and there was other interest from the second division so we’re delighted he’s coming to us.”
As far as Nelson is concerned, he may just have turned 40 at the weekend, but Weir believes the former St Johnstone and Partick Thistle man is still the best between the posts in the league.
He said, “Craig was excellent throughout last season and was on top form in the play-offs. I think he’s been the best in the division.
“He’s really keen to keep playing as long as he can and he’s showing no signs of age catching up with him.
“How long has he got left? Who knows. But I’m just pleased he’s staying at Brechin for another season. This will be his seventh with the club.”
Nelson said, “I want to play as long as I can. As long as I feel good and I’m not making a fool of myself or making too many mistakes then I’ll keep playing.
“At the moment, my body feels good. I’m not the fittest, but you don’t have to be as a goalkeeper, and my awareness and sharpness is still there.
“I was pleased with my own performance in the play-offs and hopefully we can get back there again next season.”
