Brechin 1 Stenhousemuir 3: McKinnon frustrated by ‘brutal’ final-day display

Garry Kenneth is one of those being released as Brechin look to refresh for next season.

Brechin City manager Ray McKinnon has begun to ring the changes at Glebe Park after a 3-1 defeat from Stenhousemuir brought the curtain down on what has been a disappointing season for the club.

Seven players are being released by City Jonny Brown, Ewan Moyes, Steven Robb, Graham Hay, Garry Kenneth, Allan Walker and Derek Carcary while Darren Petrie returns to Dundee United after the conclusion of his loan deal.

“It was brutal from us today,” said McKinnon. “Our passing and decision-making was very poor throughout.

“It’s not been good enough and it’s now up to us to try and bring in players with the right mentality and equally importantly, bring in the right style of player who’s going to complement the players we already have here.”

Stenny grabbed the opener from the penalty spot after 13 minutes when a Darren Smith shot struck Garry Kenneth on the arm and John Gemmell duly dispatched the spot-kick.

City drew level eight minutes into the second half when Alan Trouten converted a penalty after Andy Jackson had been sent crashing in the box after a challenge from Warriors keeper Wallace Smith who was then sent for an early bath by referee Greg Aitken.

Stenny regained the initiative on the hour-mark, again from the penalty-spot, after Kenneth had brought down Ben Greenhalgh with the City defender being given his marching orders.

Gemmell again converted with Greenhalgh completing the scoring for the visitors nine minutes later with an easy tap-in.
