Former Hibernian, Torino and Arsenal forward Joe Baker has been revealed as the latest legend to be inducted into Raith Rovers’ hall of fame.
The late former England internationalist who is also in Hibs’ hall of fame will be honoured at the Stark’s Park club’s fourth annual event in November.
Born in Liverpool to Scottish parents, Baker ended his career with a two-year stint in Kirkcaldy and scored 50 goals in 75 games.
However, Rovers’ hall of fame committee have decided to include the ex-Nottingham Forest and Sunderland player, who died in 2003, because of his overall contribution to football.
Committee member Ally Gourlay said: “He was one of the all-time greats, not just in Scotland but in England too.
“When we consider a player we look at his career as a whole and if you’re taking about Joe Baker then what he achieved was phenomenal.
“No-one could have ever expected the goalscoring legend to end up in Kirkcaldy.
“It was incredible signing him. It would be the equivalent nowadays of Rovers getting someone like Ryan Giggs. I don’t know how the manager George Farm pulled it off.”
The other six or seven inductees will be voted for by Raith supporters before the popular show on November 9.
