Brechin boss backing Forfar to win play-off

Brechin boss Ray McKinnon believes Angus neighbours Forfar have a good chance of beating Alloa in the Championship Final play-off.

The Glebe gaffer and his players agonisingly lost out to the Wasps in the semi-final at the weekend.

City were trailing by two goals following Wednesday night’s first leg at home but took the lead in the return tie at the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday.

However, they just could not get the second goal their play deserved and were left gutted at the final whistle.

Forfar now play Alloa in the final with the first leg at Station Park on Wednesday night and McKinnon knows enough about both teams to judge that Dick Campbell’s League One side have a great opportunity to win promotion.

He said: “Having played Alloa twice in the space of four days, I believe Forfar have a good chance of coming out on top in the play-off final.

“Forfar can score goals and Dick will have them really fired up.

“It should be a great occasion for the club and I wish them all the best.”

McKinnon admitted that he was still hurting after Saturday’s result and he believes his players deserved much more from the game.

He said: “Despite last Wednesday’s result, I was sure we would beat them at Alloa.

“The first 20 minutes were cagey but after that we had a load of chances and it was one-way traffic.

“I think if we had scored again we would have gone on to win it and I am so disappointed for my players.

“I was absolutely gutted afterwards and it was a cruel way to end the season.”
