East Fife manager Gary Naysmith hopes his side can build on their recent run when they welcome East Stirling to Bayview tonight although anything less than three points may well be seen as a disappointment.
Even though their last gasp 1-1 draw against Clyde might have felt like a win on Saturday, home league victories have been few and far between for the Fifers so far this season as they have mustered just two in 11 attempts.
Despite that record, the fact they face the team second bottom of the division and the fact that they have yet to taste defeat in 2015 will make Naysmith’s men favourites this evening and it’s a tag that the Fifers boss hopes his players will justify.
“I know it’s three draws and two wins since the start of the year, but I think it was important we carried the momentum into the next two games at home,” Naysmith said of Saturday’s point.
“The fans went away with the momentum that we hadn’t suffered a defeat, and if we’d been beaten it would have been difficult to pick the players up before Tuesday.
“I thought we played well.
“I hate drawing, we need to improve at home and the fans will think I sound like a broken record because I keep saying we need to start winning at home.
“But I can’t be unhappy at the performance on Saturday and if we play like we did every week I’ll be happy.
“Having said that, the games are running out and we’re can’t keep making mistakes.
“We’re still making mistakes that we made at the start of the season and I was relieved because a draw was the least we deserved.
“It’s taken a wonder goal from Fraser Mullen to get us a point when we should have had all three because I think we deserved to win quite comfortably to be honesty.”
A victory tonight could see the Fifers jump above Berwick into fifth spot in League Two, although Berwick are also in action this evening away to Elgin.
Naysmith has already hinted at potentially trying something slightly “unorthodox” up front this evening, with Nathan Austin struggling with a hamstring problem and striker Kevin Smith and midfielder Caolan McAleer both likely to need scans on respective knee injuries.
That would leave the Fifers with just on loan Dundee United prospect Ola Adeyemo as their only recognised striker.
“Ola looked lively when he came on against Clyde and it was maybe a wee bit unfair on the lad because I just threw him straight into the Albion Rovers game when he signed,” Naysmith added.
“Looking back I maybe should have introduced him gradually.
“It may be the case that we’ll have to try something a little different against East Stirling.”
