Montrose 2 East Stirling 1: Gable Endies hold on to home record
ByThe Courier Reporter
Montrose sit just one point off the pace in a competitive League Two, after they held on against a late East Stirling onslaught to stretch their 100% home record to four matches.
Coach Jim Butter said: “We played very well in the first half as we went two goals up.
“A third goal would have killed the game but we failed to get it and East Stirling were probably the better side in the second half,” he added.
Montrose opened the scoring on nine minutes. Ross McCord chipped a free-kick into the box and Graham Webster volleyed home.
The home side stretched their lead on 21 minutes. Gavin Malin played in Ross Campbell and his cutback was sidefooted home by Gary Fraser for his fifth goal in four home matches.
Montrose rode their luck in the closing stages. On 81 minutes Nathan Shepherd hit the post and a follow-up from Ally Roy was headed off the line by Greg Pascazio.
On 84 minutes David McKenna had the ball in the Montrose net but was given offside.
A minute later East Stirling became the first visiting side to score at Links Park this season when a shot from Maxwell Wright sneaked through a crowded box and into the net.
