Craig Conway a wanted man after loan spell at Brighton

Former Dundee United winger Craig Conway is wanted back at Brighton after his loan spell from Cardiff came to an end.

The former Dundee United player’s three-month stint at the Seagulls ended following Saturday’s win at Middlesbrough.

Conway made a good impression on the south coast, appearing 13 times and scoring once.

The 28-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, has returned to his parent club but will be unable to play for Cardiff until at least next month after being omitted from manager Malky Mackay’s initial Premiership squad list.

Brighton assistant manager Nathan Jones says Conway’s short spell at the club was a success.

He said: “He’s done well for us and we’re very, very pleased with him. It’s a shame he has to go back because we’d still like him to be involved. We’re going to have to see.

“We have got five that can play wide, including Craig, and he offers something different.

“On the pitch he has been what we knew but off the pitch he has been phenomenal. He fitted in so quickly.

“That was a conscious effort. His wife was pregnant but he moved his family straight down.

“The loan market is very important and you have to be thorough.

“There have been some we’ve enquired about who haven’t quite fancied it, so we put them to one side.

“We want the ones who are desperate to play for us. He was one I had earmarked before I even came here.”
