German playmaker Toni Kroos has claimed the world champions weren’t rattled by Scotland.
Kroos, who ran the show for much of the 3-2 victory at Hampden on Monday night, said: “The score at the end makes it sound more of a scare than it actually was.
“We are on the right way but we should be able to defend our goal better than we did.
“Scotland don’t have as many weapons in front of the goal as other teams do but we lost goals which were not of our standards.
“It was difficult to find the final pass because Scotland had so many at the back, but I felt we played very good football.”
Thomas Muller, who scored the first two goals for the Germans, added: “We knew what was at stake for us and I think we played better football this time.
“Scotland played a lot of the game in the air but we were calmer and more settled than them on the ball.”
The man who grabbed the winner, Ilkay Gundogan, also damned Scotland with the high-ball jibe.
The Borussia Dortmund man said: “We had to be very patient because the Scots were very deep in their defence so they made it very difficult for us.
“We still managed to move the ball well and were dangerous in front of the goal.
“We knew Scotland would be dangerous with high balls and set pieces. In the end we couldn’t defend against them twice.
“They made two goals from two chances so in the end we were just glad to get the third goal so we left with three points.”
