Raith boss Ray McKinnon has revealed how his back-room team work really well together despite the fact that two of them also hold down full-time jobs outwith football.
When he became Rovers manager after leaving Brechin City, McKinnon was keen to take his two trusted lieutenants from The Glebe, Grant Johnston and Darren Taylor, with him to Stark’s Park.
Both are now an important part of the set-up at Raith alongside assistant manager and long-time player Laurie Ellis.
McKinnon said: “Both Grant and Darren have full-time jobs and they have good jobs.
“Grant tries to get in once a week, if he can, and that’s something we’re going to look at going forward.
“We decided he would run the Under-20s and Darren will come in one morning a week, in due course.
“They just come in part-time at the weekend and for games, including the Under-20s matches.
“Grant goes in the stand to give me a different view on the game, because sometimes you see things up there that it’s hard to see at ground level.
“Then Laurie’s in every day with me.
“He’s a good lad and knows the club really well. He knows a lot of the things around the club that it took me ages to get. That’s great.
“Laurie’s been excellent. He’s a good lad, he works hard and he’s diligent. He’s doing a great job.
“It’s brilliant to have those two with me, boys I trust, and the lads love Darren and Grant as well. It’s a good wee group, everybody does the job and it works well.”
