Former Falkirk striker Pedro Moutinho is being considered for the vacant manager’s post at Forfar.
The 36-year-old is currently playing for junior outfit Bo’ness following a brief stint with Stenhousemuir but he is keen to make the switch to the dugout.
Moutinho has applied for the job and is keeping his fingers crossed that he will be selected for an interview.
The Portuguese marksman became a fans favourite at the Bairns during his three separate stints at the club after initially arriving in Scotland from Maritimo in 2004.
The Loons are looking for a new manager after sacking the long-serving Dick Campbell at the weekend.
Former Cowdenbeath and Berwick boss Colin Cameron has been linked with the post, as has Airdrie manager Gary Bollan.
First team coach Stewart Petrie, a former Loons striker and Paul Sheerin’s right-hand man at Arbroath for four seasons, has been handed the reins for Saturday’s League One clash at Albion Rovers, with the club board planning to start interviewing ‘within the week’.
On Tuesday a statement from the board said they were heartened by the initial response to the quest to replace Campbell, adding that the directors have been impressed by the quality and standing within the game of those who have expressed an interest in the post.
Meanwhile Forfar whose Ladbrokes League One clash away to title-chasing Ayr on Saturday February 20 will be shown live on BBC Alba still do not know their William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round opponents.
The Loons are away to either Wick Academy or Linlithgow Rose, with Wednesday night’s third round tie in the Highlands ending in a 2-2 draw after Wick equalised in the 90th minute. The game now goes to a replay at Rose’s Prestonfield ground.
