Raith Rovers midfielder James Craigen reckons the Kirkcaldy club have proved they are more than capable of finishing among the Championship play-off places.
Ray McKinnon’s side currently sit third on goal difference behind Falkirk ahead of today’s visit of Morton.
The foundations for their impressive start have been built at Stark’s Park, with Rovers the only side in British football not to have conceded a goal on home turf.
Craigen said: “I think we’ve started well and if someone said at the start of the season that we would be joint second after eight games, we would have taken it.
“We have a good group of players here and we’ve made ourselves hard to beat.
“Everyone wants to get into the top four and we’ve given ourselves a good platform to go and do that.
“I don’t think expectations have increased but after Saturday’s game we’ve done the first round of games and we know we can compete against teams in this league.
“I think we all know Rangers are going to win this league but there’s not much between the rest of the teams so there is no reason we can’t finish in the top four. We’re going about our business quietly and putting a nice run together.”
Should Rovers overcome Ton this afternoon, McKinnon will also equal former Raith boss Bob Bennie’s record from 1933 in winning his first five league games in charge at Stark’s Park.
And Craigen believes there is even more to come from the Fife side.
He added: “At the start of the season, we discussed how we wanted to play and how we wanted to start games and, bar the three defeats, we’ve done that.
“I think there is more to come from us, I think we can play a lot better. First of all, it’s make yourself hard to beat, and hopefully later on in this season we can play better with the ball. We’ve started off well.”
