Dundee v St Johnstone: Managers agree form book won’t decide match

Dundee v St Johnstone: Managers agree form book won’t decide match

Dundee boss Barry Smith has called on his players to write their own script when they face in-form St Johnstone.

Saints have been rightly praised for having strung three wins in a row and will visit Dens Park on Saturday as favourites.

However, Smith insists it should be what his players do that matters.

He said: ”The one thing St Johnstone will have coming into this game is confidence. They have won three on the bounce but it has to be about what we do. We think we can go and be positive at home and have a right go.

”A similar performance to the one we had against Motherwell albeit we want a different result will give us every chance of winning. Naturally, we want to win our home games and give the fans something to cheer about but whether it’s at home or on the road, we just want the points as that’s the most important thing.”

Dundee are expecting a healthy crowd at the game.

Smith said: ”There’s obviously a bit of edge to these games. It’s not quite the same as the Dundee derby but there might be a wee bit added atmosphere to it. Hopefully, they will bring a good travelling support up here and our fans turn out in numbers too.”

Dundee are currently propping up the SPL table having only won one league game so far this season after being rushed into the top tier to replace Rangers.

However, Saints boss Steve Lomas is taking nothing for granted, especially as the Dark Blues have made some recent additions to their squad including a player the Perth boss wanted to sign himself, Mark Kerr.

He said: ”I have watched a few of their games and they are not far away. They have added good SPL experience in Mark Kerr and Colin Nish who has scored a lot of goals in this league. So we will have to be on our toes and I am sure it will be a typical derby.”
