Scotland’s oldest junior football club are in danger of closing. Formed in 1880, East Craigie will not be around next season unless a new management team and committee can be found.
Lil Lindsay, who has been the mainstay of the Shipbuilders’ committee for more than 20 years with her husband Sandy, feels it is time for someone else to assume control.
Team manager Ade Shearer intends to stand down due to work commitments and health matters, although he has indicated he will see out the rest of this season if no one comes forward.
The departure last week of John McGlashan and Paul Reilly, who had helped with coaching at Craigie Park, to become the new management team at Tayport brought matters to a head.
This left the North League club in dire straits and Mrs Lindsay issued an appeal.
“We don’t want to see this club go to the wall, but unless someone comes forward, I’m afraid it may become a reality,” she said.
“We need a new manager, committee and ground staff. It may be an opportunity for a well-run amateur club who fancy a step up to try their luck in the junior grade.
“But myself and Sandy have been here for 22 years and I really do feel it’s time for a rest.
“We’d obviously be prepared to stay on in the interim period to assist anyone who came in, because it really would be a tragedy if this club were to fold after 131 years in existence.”
East Craigie officials would be delighted to hear from people or clubs interested in taking over.
