Courier Sport understands that Rotherham United boss Steve Evans is weighing up a move for Dundee’s Leighton McIntosh.

The manager of the npower League Two club has already made seven new signings this summer, including former Aberdeen midfielder Kari Arnason, as he rebuilds the Millers squad.

Evans has publicly stated he is still in the market for another striker and is believed to be interested in Scotland Under-19 star McIntosh.

The New York stadium boss previously raided the Scottish First Division when he was manager of Crawley Town, snapping up Dunfermline winger Willie Gibson for a fee believed to be in the region of £100,000.

However, Dundee CEO Scot Gardiner said that while he knew other sides have run the rule over hot prospect McIntosh, that was as far as their interest had extended.

He said: ”We are aware that a couple of clubs have looked at him but I can confirm there has been no firm contact regarding Leighton.”

There is less certainty surrounding another player, Gary Irvine, with the Dark Blues still awaiting word from the full-back on whether he will accept a new deal to stay at the club.

Irvine was one of Dens Park boss Barry Smith’s star men last season but he has attracted interest from other sides with a counter offer from SPL new boys Ross County also on the table.

Dundee were prepared to wait for an answer with Irvine preoccupied with his recent wedding and honeymoon but their patience has now worn thin.

Gardiner said: ”I’m afraid we are no further ahead with Gary. We are still sitting tight waiting for an answer. However, we do have a Plan A and Plan B in place.

”But we are not prepared to wait much longer to hear what Gary has decided.”

Meanwhile, Gardiner confirmed that sales of tickets for the upcoming derby friendly with Dundee United at Dens on July 14 are coming along nicely, with around 4000 tickets bought already.
