Signings settling in well at Raith Rovers

Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn has expressed his satisfaction with the way his summer signings have adapted to life at Stark’s Park — especially as the club’s first competitive fixture is just over two weeks away.

McGlynn snapped up John Baird, Andy McNeil, Willie Dyer and Scott McBride before Rovers started pre-season training on June 22.

Now he is hoping the four friendlies Raith have lined up over the next fortnight will integrate the players fully before the Kirkcaldy side take on Cowdenbeath in the Challenge Cup on July 24.

“Our new signings seem to be settling in very well,” he said.

“They have been included in everything we have done so far and, although it is hard work, they seem to be enjoying themselves as they become integrated into the squad.

“Like all new players, they are just keen and cannot wait to start playing games to get to really know the rest of the lads on the pitch.

“Our first competitive fixture is just a couple of weeks away, which is why we started back to pre-season so early.”

The first of the four friendlies is in Montrose on Saturday, and McGlynn revealed there is a doubt over the participation of veteran defender Laurie Ellis, who is suffering from a hamstring problem.

“Laurie did not train yesterday and it is touch and go whether he will be able to do anything tomorrow,” he added.

“The physio has not yet ruled him out for the Montrose game, but we will just have to wait and see.”
