Barnsley were taken by surprise when it was pointed out to them that they will have to pay up for Kane Hemmings. The talented striker moved from Cowdenbeath to the English League One side this week. The Blue Brazil were disappointed to lose Hemmings but at least they had the consolation of compensation. However, when the Tykes were told by the Central Park club that money would have to change hands because the player is under 23 they seemed oblivious. Now, though, negotiations have started between the two teams. Cowden chief executive Alex Anderson said: “As Kane is 22 we are due compensation and discussions are now under way between the two clubs. “He is free to join any club but the under-23 rule means that compensation has to be paid to Cowdenbeath and this issue still has to be resolved.”
