Scott Bain on verge of becoming the first Dundee player to win a cap since 2003
ByNeil Robertson
If Dundee keeper Scott Bain plays for Scotland against the Czech Republic in tonight’s friendly either from the start or off the bench, he will become the first Dark Blues player to be capped since 2003.
It was an unlucky 13 years ago that former Dens favourites Gavin Rae and Lee Wilkie played for the national side against Holland in the second leg of a Euro 2004 play-off.
The Scots had travelled in buoyant mood after winning the first leg 1-0 at Hampden thanks to a James McFadden goal.
However, they were hammered 6-0 in the Amsterdam Arena as the Dutch ran riot to inflict Scotland’s worst defeat in 42 years.
Now, Bain, will hope that a week that began with the disappointing low of being sent off in the derby at Tannadice will edge to a close with the high of winning his first cap.
If he does, it will be confirmation of a truly meteoric rise since he left part-time Alloa in the summer of 2014 to join Paul Hartley’s side.
