Motherwell 0 Dundee 1: Dark Blues close in on fifth
ByCraig Smith
Dundee closed in on fifth spot in the Scottish Premiership courtesy of a 1-0 success at struggling Motherwell.
A freak Paul McGinn goal in the first half was enough to make it eight league games unbeaten for the Dark Blues, while the outcome piled more pressure on the hosts who are now clearly facing a real battle to stay up.
The victory kept Paul Hartley’s side in sixth place above St Johnstone, and they will now have their sights set on overtaking Hamilton in the table after moving to within two points of Accies.
Motherwell meanwhile slipped to the foot of the standings on goal difference after Ross County’s win away to Partick.
The goal was perhaps a bit harsh on the home team, although Dundee did enough to more than merit their win over the piece.
It came in the 13th minute when Alex Harris played the ball into McGinn down the right, and McGinn seemed to slip before his cross sailed over the head of the despairing George Long and into the net.
That mattered little to the 688 travelling supporters though, and they will now turn their attention to another winnable-looking game away in Dingwall next time out.
