Dundee boss Paul Hartley hailed striker Kane Hemmings for reaching his 15-goal target and then quickly set him a new one.
Hemmings reached the magic number on Tuesday night when he smashed home Paul McGinn’s cross for his second goal of the night in the Dark Blues’ 3-1 win over Falkirk in the Scottish Cup.
That saw him get there before teammates Rory Loy and Greg Stewart.
The Englishman has been on fire of late and has now found the net nine times in his last six matches for the Dens men.
That is some going and, understandably, Hemmings has been praised by his gaffer.
Hartley doesn’t want him to stop there, however, and has moved the goalposts to 20.
The manager said: “I set the three strikers a target of 15 goals each at the start of the season.
“I felt that all three could score goals for Dundee.
“I thought 45 between them was a realistic target.
“Kane is the first to reach that total so well done to him.
“There are a number of games left for him to achieve the next target of 20 goals for the campaign and that must be his aim now.
“Kane had a slow start to his Dundee career in terms of goals but once he got going there has been no stopping him and he likes to hit the back of the net.
“He is a composed, two-footed finisher and he works a lot on that side of his game as well as his conditioning as he is looking lean and sharp.
“I think he has been an excellent signing for Dundee so far but he has to keep it going and not rest on his laurels now that he has scored 15 goals.
“He looks like he is going to score every time he steps out on to the park.
“That might come to an end, I hope it doesn’t but he is working hard and that is the key for him and he is always a threat.
“I want Kane to get 20 goals and anything after that it is a bonus.”
Having negotiated a tricky-looking cup-tie against an in-form Falkirk side, next up for Dundee is a home Premiership match against Motherwell.
Dundee will show them a lot of respect, especially since it was the Steelmen who triumphed 3-1 when the teams last met on December 12 at Fir Park.
Hartley said: “We know that Motherwell are a good team and they showed that not so long ago against us when they played very well.
“We want to try and get a positive result, especially as we are at home.
“Having played under Mark McGhee at Aberdeen I know his teams are are always a fit bunch.
“So they are a real threat.
“They like to play two up front, like ourselves, and have a go.
“They play a certain way and have had a couple of bad results of late but they went to Celtic Park and won and thoroughly deserved it.
“So we know what to expect.”
