Dundee’s Matt Lockwood is talking a good game on and off the pitch.
The veteran was recently employed as a sweeper at Kilmarnock, helping young defenders Kyle Benedictus and Declan Gallagher through the match.
And he has another new role as a guest summariser for BBC Radio London, with the 36-year-old Englishman giving his verdict on a host of top clashes recently.
Lockwood said: “It’s been a great experience.
“I’ve always liked the idea of talking about football so to get this chance at some top English games has been brilliant. I was asked to do it on Sundays when Dundee didn’t have a game, so obviously I jumped at it.
“You never know what will happen in the future but it’s something I wouldn’t mind doing a bit more of. As a player, it gives you a great view of the game and sometimes you can see things from a different angle.
“It’s another learning curve and you always take things from games which you then try and add to your own.”
Lockwood revelled in his radio stint and he admitted he was equally pleased to be asked to make his sweeper debut at Kilmarnock.
He said: “It’s the first time in a career where I’ve played over 600 games that I’ve been put in at sweeper.
“I enjoyed it because I was brought in to talk the two young lads Kyle and Declan through the 90 minutes. I think I’ve got plenty of experience and tips to pass on, so when the gaffer asked me to go to sweeper I didn’t hesitate.
“It was just nice to come back into the team and hopefully I’ve done enough to merit keeping my place.
“St Mirren this week is a massive game but it’s one we’re all really looking forward to as there’s still plenty of football left after the split.”
