Dundee United’s cursed season has hit a new low with the news that captain Paul Paton may have sustained a serious knee injury.
The midfielder, who only returned to the side after a long-term lay-off few months ago, has been United’s best player in their Premiership revival effort.
In the week that the Tannadice club parted company with defender Gavin Gunning, manager Mixu Paatelainen is now faced with getting to the end of the season without the former Partick Thistle man and could also be without him in what is looking like being the start of a Championship campaign.
Paton, who is under contract for another season, has been sent for a scan which has suggested a serious knee injury but the Tangerines are seeking a second opinion.
Paatelainen today confirmed the injury.
He said: “Paul has a problem with his knee and we’re sending him to a specialist.”
