Callum Morris buoyed by Dundee United’s show of strength

Callum Morris believes Dundee United have displayed mental strength to complement their undoubted skill.

By storming back to beat Ross County 2-1 after suffering a hammering at the hands of Celtic, the central defender feels the Tangerines proved they can dig deep.

“It was very satisfying to have bounce back the way we did,” said the former Dunfermline man. “That showed we have enough self-belief to recover from a result like the Celtic one.

“We knew that defeat was down to mistakes and knew that if we could put that right then we could come away with a positive result against Ross County.

“Now that we have done that we can look forward to next weekend and hopefully build on that. It was just a case of getting back to winning ways.

“On the back of the disappointing result against Celtic, we were determined to get the three points and I thought we did well.

“We showed good mental strength to score so late on, which is something we also did against Motherwell in our previous home match.

“The thing is, we know we are always going to create chances and we have players who have proved they can take them.

“We just knew that if we kept plugging away we would eventually get something.”

The winning goal was a fine finish from sub Chris Erskine and Morris was delighted for a player whom he has faced plenty of times in the past.

Morris said: “It was super technique from Chris. We know what we can do and he does it every day in training with either foot to be honest.

“So it didn’t surprise us at all. I think everyone was thrilled that he got the goal.

“I played against him a few times when he was at Partick Thistle and I was at Dunfermline.

“Looking back, I remember he was a very difficult player to play against. Indeed, I have not seen many players like Chris.

“I think anyone who has come up against him, especially in that league, would have targeted him as someone who had to be watched carefully.

“So hopefully he is knocking at the door now to get into the starting 11. You can’t do much more than come on and score a goal like that.”
