Celtic manager welcomes Van Dijk decision

Celtic boss Ronny Deila welcomed the decision to free up Virgil van Dijk to face United in the final.

After hearing the news that the red card the defender picked up in Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash at Tannadice had been rescinded following a Hampden hearing yesterday, Deila said: “I think it was the right decision and I am happy that justice has come and that he can play in the final.

“He is an important player for us.

“Finals should have the best players in them so I am happy for Virgil and it’s very good news for the team as well.”

Given the mayhem caused by what happened last weekend, the Parkhead gaffer would be happy to see video evidence used in football in future.

He said: “That’s a very hard discussion but I think that could be good for the big situations.

“There is so much at stake there.

“Money, training, glory, fans everything. And it should be right.

“You see goalline technology has come now and I think that’s positive.

“They can have a chance to go off and say if they got it right or not.

“I think that can only be positive for everyone because everyone wants the best team to win.”

Deila will be telling his players to steer clear of trouble on Sunday.

“If you lose your discipline there and get a red card you can lose the game.

“I think we have been disciplined.

“On Sunday some things happened after a situation.

“Again, when something happens like that you must keep discipline and focus.

“So I expect my players to do that in every game now.”
