Scott Robertson looking for new club after coming home from Romania

Scott Robertson.
Scott Robertson.

Former Dundee and Dundee United midfielder Scott Robertson admits he is just desperate to play again after a nightmare three months in Romania.

The 30-year-old joined Liga 1 side Botosani after leaving Hibs at the end of last season.

Robertson knew he was taking a risk, especially as it meant he would be away from his wife and three sons but he was up for the challenge.

However, he was left frustrated when Botosani coach Leontin Grozavu left him kicking his heels on the sidelines and that factor added to missing his nearest and dearest led to him cutting his stay short and coming home.

The former Scotland international is now on the look-out for a new club with the player stressing that he does not have big wage demands.

He is also in top nick having done a full pre-season and is keeping himself ticking over training with Raith Rovers.

Robertson said: “To be honest, I don’t want to say too much about what happened.

“However, if I was ever to write an autobiography, I could probably fill it with the last three months in Romania.

“I thought I could give it a go but it is not something I would rush to do again in a hurry.

“I now have an understanding and appreciation of what it must be like for foreigners coming to play in Scotland.

“It was very hard for me to try to adjust to the different ways they trained and even things like the weather it was 35 degrees every day.

“Most of all though, I missed my family as they were all back in Scotland.

“They couldn’t just jump on a plane and come to visit. You had to take three flights to get to where I was.

“It was a major factor being away from them for so long.

“I knew it was a gamble going there and it was a bit risky but it was a challenge I wanted to try, to sample something different.

“I might have adjusted eventually but I wasn’t getting a game for some reason.

He added: “So I am home now and just hoping a club here will give me the opportunity to play.

“This is the first time in my career that I have been a free agent and to be honest, it is not a nice situation to be in.

“After three months away from my family, the best case scenario would be to get a club nearby.

“I am really fit having done a full pre-season with Botosani. I am also grateful to Ray McKinnon and Raith Rovers for letting me train with them.

“I certainly do not have big wage demands I just want to get back playing again.”
