Kenny Adamson injury blow for Cowdenbeath

Cowdenbeath left-back Kenny Adamson is facing the possibility of a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a scan showed he had suffered a stress fracture in his foot.

Boss Jimmy Nicholl, who brought in striker Calum Gallagher before the transfer window shut, said: “We are now arranging for Kenny to be seen by a specialist to see what we do now.”

Adamson’s scan results add to Nicholl’s worsening injury problems, with defender Nat Wedderburn the latest casualty with a hamstring problem.

He joins midfielder Sammy Stewart and striker Craig Sutherland who are already crocked with groin and knee injuries.

Nicholl returned to one of his former clubs to sign talented Rangers youngster Gallagher, 19, on loan until January.

The club suffered another major blow yesterday when they learned that their lucrative scheduled home Championship fixture against Rangers on October 11 was likely to be called off because of international commitments.

Cowden have received indications from the SPFL that the game will almost certainly have to be rearranged because of international fixtures that weekend which could see Rangers players called up for full or under-21 games.

Scotland are at home to Georgia in the European Championship that day before travelling to meet Poland three days later.

Cowden’s chief executive Alex Anderson said: “ Our Championship match against Rangers has not been officially cancelled at this stage but we have had verbal indications that our fixture would not go ahead as planned.

“Now we are left in the position where the SPFL cannot even tell us when the re-arranged fixture would be. This affects our ability to organise hospitality and other necessary arrangements in relation to tickets, police and security.

“There would have been a full house at Central Park and it is a major blow to our club to be in this situation.”
