Brechin boss Darren Dods looking to build on momentum

At the end of last month when Brechin were thumped 4-1 by Peterhead, there would have been few willing to wager that they would beat the drop this season.

The defeat left City sitting seven points behind second bottom Forfar and 10 adrift of Cowdenbeath in eighth place.

Now though, the great escape is a distinct possibility once again for the Angus side after back-to-back wins over the Loons and then Ayr last weekend.

Brechin are now just two points behind Forfar and four from the Blue Brazil with Glebe gaffer Darren Dods looking for his team to pile more pressure on the sides above by winning for the third time in succession at Airdrie this afternoon.

The player/manager said: “I was obviously delighted that we made it back-to-back wins with the victory over a good Ayr side.

“I was also really pleased that we kept our second clean sheet in a row.

“Prior to the games against Forfar and Ayr, we had shipped eight goals in our previous two matches.

“So, especially as a defender, it is great we have stopped conceding and it gives us a solid base to work from.

“For once this season, results elsewhere went our way last weekend and hopefully, Forfar and Cowdenbeath will be looking anxiously over their shoulders.”

Dods added: “We have cut the gap on both of them to two and four points respectively and we have now all played the same number of games.

“So hopefully we can continue to build on our recent momentum when we go to Airdrie on Saturday.

“We haven’t won three in a row all season so now would be a great time to do that with just eight games remaining.

“We will be without Liam Watt who is not allowed to play against his parent club and that is a blow as he has been really good for us.

“However, it is something we have known about since he joined us and while we will also be without the injured Darren McCormack, we also have Andy Jackson back from injury and Gary Fusco returns from suspension.”
