Cowdenbeath and Arbroath ready for cup clash

Cowdenbeath manager Colin Nish is looking forward for the home version of his side turning up today against Arbroath after two defeats on the trot from his away one.

The Central Park outfit are showing two different sides to their game by being undefeated at their own ground since the first day of the season, while failing on the road.

In the last week they were thrashed 7-0 by Peterhead then 2-1 at Albion Rovers.

Nish said: “We are like two different teams. We have one that turns up and does really well in home games and then another one that struggles in away games. We can give anyone a game at our place but for some reason, apart from a 3-0 success at Stranraer, we do not look the same side away.

“There are lessons that we can learn as I thought we were unlucky not to get anything at Albion Rovers. We were punished for not building on our goal quickly enough. We attacked them well throughout the game however when we got ahead we seemed to sit back a bit and that invited pressure.

“When we went behind we were the stronger team again and pushed hard for an equaliser. We need to show that for the full 90 minutes against Arbroath and hopefully being at Central Park will mean that we can do that.”

The Blue Brazil are again without the injured John Armstrong, Lewis Milne and Jack Beaumont however loan signings Andy Murdoch and Gordon Smith can play.

Meanwhile, Arbroath boss Todd Lumsden is looking for his players to show the same belief that they had last weekend at Annan.

The Red Lichties found themselves two down and rallied to secure a point, with Lumsden disappointed that they didn’t go on to win.

He said: “It will be a tough task to get a result there is no doubt about that. I watched Cowdenbeath at Albion Rovers and they scored a goal of really high quality. It was a close game and I thought they were unlucky to lose 2-1.

“We need to look at ourselves and we know that we should be going into this game having beaten Annan. We were disappointed afterwards at the result but the players deserve credit for their spirit and belief.

“That spirit and belief will be needed again as we are the underdogs as we are away from home to a team from a higher level.”

Ricky Little is available after a ban, however Craig Johnstone, Sergio Alvarez and Kieran Stewart are out injured.
