Montrose defender Paul Watson believes he and his team-mates are playing for their futures at Links Park.
The 28-year-old scored the goal that gained a point for caretaker manager George Shields in his first game in charge against Queen’s Park on Saturday.
However Watson insists the team are focused on finishing on a high and admitted it was a tough week.
He said: “It’s been difficult for everyone and no-one likes to see a manager get the sack.
“George spoke to us all and told us what he expected. All we can do as players is finish the season as high as we can in the league.”
The Gable Endies came away with a point at bottom of the table Queen’s Park, but Gus McPherson’s men were left rueing the chances they missed.
Montrose goalie Stuart McKenzie saw a chance from Queen’s Craig Sutherland zip wide after Eammon Brophy fed him with a diagonal pass.
Blair Lochhead at the other end had a fair quiet first half, with Watson seeing a free kick go wide and Bryan Deasley’s easily scooped by the Spiders’ keeper.
Queen’s Park took the lead five minutes into the restart when Brophy slammed his shot through McKenzie’s lead to give the home team the lead.
Watson netted the equaliser seven minutes later when he took advantage of James Brough’s poor headed clearance to ram home with a left foot shot.
