Montrose 0 Clyde 2: Gable Endies make it ‘too easy’ for leaders

Montrose manager Stuart Garden was left disappointed as his team went down tamely at home to a Clyde side who have now gone clear at the top of League Two.

Clyde had the wind and rain in their favour in the first half and dominated play, although Bryan Deasley had a 21st-minute drive which Clyde keeper Nik Rajovik saved at the second attempt.

The Bully Wee scored on 30 minutes. The home defence failed to deal with a Scott Ferguson corner and Kevin Watt forced the ball over the line.

Two minutes later, a Kieran McDonald cross was headed home on the back post by Ferguson.

Any hopes of a Montrose fightback were surely dashed on 43 minutes. They were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Clyde box but, before the kick could be taken, Ross McCord was shown a red for pushing an opponent.

Montrose battled until the final whistle but the closest they came to scoring was on 74 minutes when Garry Wood shot just wide.

Garden said: “That was not a good day. We were against the wind in the first half but the two goals we conceded were sloppy.

“Our defending at a corner was not good enough, then an easy cross was met by an easy header on the back post.

“Ross McCord was apparently sent off for pushing someone, but there was a tackle by a Clyde player later in the game which was only a booking and I felt it should have been the other way round.

“The sending-off didn’t cost us the game as first and foremost we let them score their goals too easily.

“I made three attacking substitutions as we were as well going for it but we never tested their goalie at all.”
