Montrose 2 Peterhead 1: Bryan Deasley double helps Gable Endies to first home win of season

Bryan Deasley took his tally to five goals in three games, with a deadly double, as Montrose came from behind to beat Peterhead 2-1.

Montrose survived a scare in the 11th minute when keeper Stuart McKenzie sent a clearance straight to David Cox. Instead of shooting, Cox passed to Rory McAllister, who was caught offside.

Two minutes later, McAllister showed his class when he flicked a through ball over a hesitant defence and found the bottom corner.

Montrose levelled on 29 minutes when Garry Wood headed on for Deasley to lift the ball over keeper Graeme Smith and into the net.

Montrose had the best of the chances in a second half in which both sides pushed to try to win the game.

David Gray brought the best out of Smith with a curling free-kick in 62 minutes, then two minutes later, a replica effort dipped wide.

The winning goal came in 80 minutes. A Lloyd Young ball released Deasley on the right and the striker ran in to score. Four minutes from time, Deasley almost completed his hat-trick but hit the keeper.

Three minutes in to added time, McKenzie made sure of victory when he spread himself to block from Andy Rodgers.

Montrose boss Stuart Garden said: “That was our first home win and a great three points. It wasn’t pretty, and we can play a lot better, but we ground it out.

“Bryan Deasley was brilliant, with two good finishes. I told him I would play him through the middle as that is his best position. He is a finisher and his link up play is really good as well.”
