Injury problems mount up for Montrose boss Paul Hegarty

Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is facing an injury crisis ahead of his side’s must-win match against Queen’s Park on Saturday.

The Gable Endies are currently rock bottom of League Two, 11 points behind Clyde with just five games to go until the end of the regular season.

The odds are hugely stacked against the Angus outfit mounting a great escape and it is looking increasingly likely that they are going to be pitched into a pyramid play-off against the winner of an earlier tie between the champions of the Lowland League and Highland League Edinburgh City and Brora Rangers respectively.

Tomorrow’s match against second top Queen’s Park was already looking a daunting one but the task has become even more difficult with Hegarty now without five key players.

He said: “I was already having to cope without Ross McCord, Leighton McIntosh and Bryan Deasley but now Graham Webster has gone down with mumps.

“Then to make matters even worse, Paul Harkins phoned on Wednesday night to tell me he is struggling with a hamstring injury.

“It is obviously far from ideal but other clubs are in the same boat at this stage of the season and we will just have to get on with it.

“It is a chance for others to step up to the plate in our remaining games.”
