Clyde 3 Montrose 3: Dramatic end sums up Montrose season

Frustrated Montrose boss Paul Hegarty saw his side denied a deserved victory by a last-ditch penalty in Saturday’s League Two game at Broadwood.

The Gable Endies were in front twice and looked to be on course for the points which would have ensured senior survival when Gary Fraser’s injury-time strike put them ahead.

However, there was still time for title-chasing Clyde to hit back when Greg Pascazio impeded John Gemmell in the box and Scott Linton slotted in the resulting spot-kick.

Hegarty said: “The last- minute penalty against us sums up our season!

“There were so many ups-and-downs and twists-and-turns in the match but overall I think we are unlucky not to have taken three points.”

The Bully Wee, bidding to bounce back from their home defeat by Arbroath seven days earlier, fell behind early as Ross Campbell, who had already threatened with a header, turned provider for Adrian Mallagaray to shoot low into the net from 14 yards.

However, Clyde bounced back through the lively Jordan Kirkpatrick and went ahead midway through the second half when Scott Durie sent an unstoppable shot into the net.

However, Montrose battled back immediately and they were level when Terry Masson bundled the ball home.

Masson then twice went close before Fraser’s last-ditch strike. However, Linton levelled with virtually the last kick of the game.

The draw leaves Montrose 10 points clear of bottom placed East Stirlingshire with four games remaining.
