Unity has been the strength behind St Johnstone’s success, according to manager Tommy Wright.

Wright’s time in charge of the club has seen them lift the Scottish Cup, their first major honour, and produce some fantastic results in Europe.

The latest of those came last week when the Perth men beat stylish Swiss side FC Luzern to line up a clash against Spartak Trnava.

The Slovaks visit McDiarmid Park on Thursday for the first leg of the Europa League third qualifying round clash, and Wright believes togetherness will be the key once again if they are to progress.

He said: “Any club who has a group of players like we’ve got should feel very privileged to have them, and I think our fans realise that.

“The supporters have a great relationship with our team and there’s a togetherness between them as well.

“We are very much a team, everyone is part of it. The lads keep doing it. They keep pulling out these results by beating bigger teams.

“We have now beaten two teams with budgets 20 times the size of ours (Rosenborg last season and Luzern) and we do it in the league as well.

“That is down to the spirit we have among this group of players. It is something that has been built up over a number of years.

“They don’t play for themselves they play for the team, the fans and then themselves. When someone comes here although that’s not a factor this season they have to fit into that.

“If you come here and mope around or act the big shot, you won’t last very long at this club. It wouldn’t be me. I wouldn’t have to do or say anything.

“It would be the boys who would just have you out of the dressing-room. That’s the strength.

“Everyone in there is together and we have a ‘them and us’ mentality about everything.”
