Ospreys v Edinburgh: Hookers handed first chance to impress

Hookers Aleki Lutui and James Hilterbrand will make their competitive Edinburgh debuts in the Pro12 clash with the Ospreys in Wales.

With Scotland star Ross Ford being rested, Tongan hero Lutui will pack down from the start at the Liberty Stadium, while fellow new recruit Hilterbrand will be used as an impact sub.

Coach Alan Solomons, who has also called up Geoff Cross to the front row, said: “These guys have not so far had any game time and it is important they get a run as part of the rotation process.

“The challenge is there for them to perform and maintain the standard set last weekend when we beat the Dragons.

“Aleki and Geoff are experienced inter-national players and should slot in to the side seamlessly, while reselection of the backs allows us to retain a measure of consistency in that area.”

Ospreys have made a storming start to their campaign with six away points in their first two games and Solomons added: “They have consistently been one of the top sides in the league.

“They’re always in contention when the competition reaches the business end. They’re very tough opponents, especially at home, so it’s going to be a real challenge.

“However, the way I look at it is that it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to show what they can do.”

He continued: “As a team we’re looking for continuous improvement across the board.

“I think we saw a bit of that in our defence against Dragons last weekend, and I’d like to see more again.”
