Former Howe of Fife flanker Chris Fusaro marked another milestone after his Scotland debut on Saturday by committing to a further two years with the Glasgow Warriors.

The 24-year-old had 16 tackles the most on either side in the Calcutta Cup loss at Murrayfield in his first appearance for the senior side, having played at all levels for his country through age-grade rugby.

Having joined the Glasgow club as a development player in 2010, he will now stay with the Scotstoun club until the end of the 2016 season at least.

“Since joining the Warriors I’ve never looked back and I’m delighted to be staying at the club for another two years,” said the open-side.

“I’m enjoying working with the coaches here and my game has really developed over the past few years.

“I was so proud to make my Scotland debut on Saturday and although I was very disappointed with the result, I will never forget the experience.

“I believe the best place for me to be is here in Glasgow, as it’s a club with a very bright future with success on the horizon.”

Fusaro, from Cupar, is a product of the town’s Howe club and Bell Baxter High School. He’s made 64 appearances for the Warriors, was both the players’ and supporters’ player of the season in 2012 and has captained the side this season, including the home match against European champions Toulon in the Heineken Cup.

Glasgow head coach Gregor Townsend said it was “fantastic news” that Fusaro had decided to stay and continue his development in Glasgow.

“Chris has had a very good season, which has led to him winning his first cap on Saturday,” said the coach.

“He put in a really courageous performance for Scotland. He displays leadership qualities every day at the club. Chris epitomises what you want to see in a rugby player and is very well respected by everyone in the group.”
